Montreal Canadiens forward, Brendan Gallagher, will never cease to surprise and inspire us.
In the last few minutes, just hours after publicly announcing the passing of his mother, he still agreed to answer questions on the subject during a press conference.
What a display of courage.
Brendan Gallagher comments on the announcement of his wonderful mother’s passing
See an excerpt below.
“We now have a little girl who carries my mother’s name, which is really special for me..
Yes, it has been very emotional, but I am just so proud of her, of the way she fought and the way she showed courage..
Everything she taught us.. Everything I am comes from her, so we had a really special relationship, and I will miss her, but she is with us every day, and there won’t be a single day that I don’t think of her.”
Brendan Gallagher, on his mother
The video shared by RDS is right here:
He continued:
“It’s been a heavy week. Obviously my mom has been fighting class 4 brain cancer for 3 and a half years.
It was in August (2021), shortly after we made the Finals, we got a diagnosis of her condition. The family was kinda fighting for many years there.”
“She did an unbelievable job. They gave her 6-8 months to live.
The amount of time that we were able to spend with her and get with her, the treatment she got, the doctors she got.
I’m really proud of her fight. I’m really proud of everything she did for us. She was so strong, so courageous, you know really just the best mom.
In the last 3 years, there are so many memories that we’re thankful for, grateful for.
Our whole lives, she really did so much for us. It’s the hardest thing.. In the end you try to cherish the memories that you do have..”
Brendan Gallagher today on the death of his mom Della Gallagher
Our hearts go out to Brendan and the entire Gallagher family.
He must certainly be a great inspiration to all his teammates, and seeing that he continues to play like this every night further proves what an exemplary athlete and truly special person he is.
His mother must be so proud!
Gallagher and the Canadiens will face the New York Islanders on the road, starting at 7:30 PM tonight.
It will be a very important game.
