EL MARIDO ROMPE EL VESTIDO PARA QUE ELLA NO VAYA A LA FIESTA, PERO ELLA LLEGA CON UN MILLONARIO !

A man tears his wife’s dress so she won’t go to the party.  Hours later, she arrives accompanied by her own boss.  The house was small, but it was clean and tidy.  That afternoon, Lucia paced back and forth across the room with a smile she couldn’t hide.  She was 35 years old and had rarely had the opportunity to attend an elegant event.

For her, the company party where her husband worked was an important event.  It wasn’t just any ordinary meeting.  Ernesto had told him that the directors, the bosses, and many influential people would be attending.  That’s why Lucía had been thinking for several days about what she would wear. The dress she had chosen after visiting several stores downtown was spread out on the bed.

It wasn’t the most expensive, but to her it was beautiful. It was a deep blue color that highlighted her brown skin and had a simple cut that made her feel elegant.  Lucia looked at him as if he were a small treasure.  While carefully adjusting the dress.  I was thinking about what the party would be like.  I imagined lights, music, well-dressed people, and tables full of food.

She imagined herself walking beside Ernesto, proud to accompany him.  For her, it wasn’t about impressing anyone.  All she wanted was to share that moment with her husband and see him happy about his work. In the kitchen, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the house. Lucía had prepared everything early so she would have time to get ready calmly.

He had even bought some new shoes that were still in their box.  She carefully took them out and placed them next to the dress.  Then she looked at herself in the wardrobe mirror, fixed her hair, and smiled a little nervously.  I wasn’t used to those kinds of events, but I wanted to do well.  In the living room, Ernesto was sitting looking at his phone.

He was 40 years old and had been working for several months at the company of Alejandro Salvatierra, one of the best-known businessmen in the city. For Ernesto, that job meant a lot.  She had spent years changing jobs and had finally found a place where she felt she could grow.  His colleagues were constantly talking about the company’s annual party.

They said it was the most important event of the year. There, all the employees met with the managers, and many took the opportunity to approach the bosses and make contacts.  Ernesto knew that night could be an opportunity to stand out, but as he listened to Lucia walking enthusiastically around the house, something inside him felt uneasy.

It wasn’t the first time I’d thought about that.  During the last few weeks, every time someone in the office mentioned that they could bring a guest, he felt a knot in his stomach.  His companions were talking about the women they would go out with.  Some showed photos on their phones, others said their wives had bought expensive dresses for the occasion.

Ernesto remained silent.  He never showed photos of Lucia or talked about her.  When someone asked a question, he would answer quickly and change the subject. From the living room he heard Lucia calling him happily.   He asked her if she wanted to see the dress he had bought.  Ernesto looked up from his phone and took a few seconds to answer.

She said yes, but her voice sounded muffled. Lucia appeared in the doorway of the room with the dress in front of her.  Her eyes shone like those of someone expecting a special reaction.  She walked towards him and lifted the cloth slightly so he could see her better.  He asked her if she liked it. Ernesto looked at the dress for a few seconds.  It was simple, nothing flashy.

Images of the party she imagined, filled with expensive suits, jewelry, and elegant clothes, appeared in her mind.  He thought about his classmates watching Lucia, about the looks they might give, about the comments they might make afterwards. He replied that he was fine.  That’s all. Lucía noticed that his reaction wasn’t as enthusiastic as she had hoped, but she tried not to dwell on it.

She said she had found the dress after searching for a long time and that it had been a good deal.   She also mentioned that she planned to style her hair simply and wear earrings that her mother had given her years ago.  While he was speaking, Ernesto nodded his head without paying much attention.

His mind was occupied with something else .  Lucia went back to the room and left the dress on the bed again.  She smoothed it with her hands so it wouldn’t wrinkle.  Then he opened the shoe box and tried them on.  She walked a few steps in front of the mirror and let out a small laugh.  It felt different, as if for one night he could enter a new world.

She thought about taking a picture with Ernesto at the party.  Perhaps they could keep it as a souvenir.  In the living room, Ernesto got up and walked to the window.  Outside, evening was beginning to fall .  The sky was painted orange and the noise of cars filled the street.  He put his hands in his pockets and took a deep breath.

He didn’t want to admit it, not even to himself, but something was bothering him.  I felt ashamed.  Not because Lucía was a bad person; she had always been good to him.  She supported him when he was unemployed and encouraged him when he felt frustrated.  But in his mind, the image of the party was different.

I thought about the people at the company, the expensive suits, the women dressed up in designer clothes, and then I imagined arriving with Lucia, with her simple dress and her calm way of speaking. That idea made him feel uncomfortable. He thought some colleagues might look at him with derision or that the bosses would see him as someone out of place.

Ernesto had been trying to fit into that environment for months.  He had changed the way he dressed, the way he spoke, and even the places he frequented. He wanted to look like someone successful, someone who belonged to that world.  As he continued looking out the window, he heard Lucia singing softly in the room while she put some things away in the closet.

That sound, which had once been familiar to him, now gave him a strange feeling.  He thought about the party again.  He thought about his co- workers watching him.  He thought about the conversations, the laughter, the comments the next day in the office.  At that moment an idea began to form in his head.  At first it was just a quick thought, something that appeared and disappeared.

But seconds later it returned with even more force.  A simple solution, a way to avoid taking Lucia without having to argue with her, without having to tell her directly what I thought.  He looked back towards the room where she was. Lucía continued to carefully arrange the dress , as if it were something very valuable.

He picked it up once more and hung it on the closet door so it wouldn’t get wrinkled.  Then he went into the kitchen to check on dinner.  Ernesto observed the dress from the doorway of the living room.  He stood still for a few seconds, thinking.  The house was silent.  The sound of dishes clattering in the kitchen was the only thing that could be heard.

He walked slowly towards the room.  His gaze remained fixed on the blue cloth that hung in front of him.  At that moment he said nothing, he didn’t make any decision yet, he just stared at the dress that Lucia had chosen with such enthusiasm for the following night, while in his head an idea began to grow that would change everything.

That night, the house was silent after dinner.  Lucía washed the dishes while Ernesto watched television without paying much attention.  The images were changing on the screen.  But his mind was elsewhere.  I was thinking about the company party that would be the next day. He thought about the room full of elegant people, the music, the well-set tables, but above all he thought about something that had been bothering him for weeks.

Everyone in the office was talking about the party.  Some did it with excitement, others with pride.  It was the event of the year within Alejandro Salvatierra’s company.  It wasn’t just a gathering for eating and dancing.  It was a night where employees could approach managers, where contacts were made, and where many tried to project the best possible image.

Ernesto perfectly remembered a conversation he had overheard a few days earlier.  I was in the company break room with two colleagues.  One of them, Mauricio, was showing photos on his phone. He said his girlfriend had bought a very expensive dress for the party.  On the screen was a blonde woman, very well- groomed, wearing a bright red dress .

The other colleagues reacted with enthusiasm.  They said it looked spectacular.  Then they started joking among themselves about who would bring the most elegant companion.  At that moment, one of them turned to Ernesto and asked him if he would also be bringing his wife.  Ernesto felt that everyone was looking at him, waiting for an answer.

For a second he thought about taking a picture of Lucia, but he didn’t.  She simply replied that yes, perhaps she would go with him.  Then he remained silent.  That scene kept replaying in his head.  I couldn’t forget her.  He remembered the way his colleagues talked about the appearance of the women they would be carrying.

They were commenting on the type of dress, the makeup, the shoes. For them it seemed like a competition.  And although no one had directly mentioned Lucia, Ernesto felt that if they saw her they might make comments. While he was thinking about all that, he heard Lucia finish in the kitchen.  She came out with a calm smile and sat down next to him on the sofa.

He asked her if she was nervous about the party.  Ernesto replied that it wasn’t nervousness, he just wanted everything to go well.  Lucía said she was excited to accompany him. He commented that it was nice to see how his hard work was paying off.  Ernesto nodded without looking at her.   Deep down he knew that Lucia was proud of him.

For years she had supported him when things weren’t going well.  There were difficult months when there was barely enough money to pay the rent. Lucia never complained.  She always found a way to keep the house in order and to cheer him up when he felt frustrated.  But that night Ernesto wasn’t thinking about those moments.

His mind was preoccupied with the image he wanted to project to his colleagues and to the company’s bosses. Lucia started talking about the dress again .  He said he planned to get up early to iron it properly. She also mentioned that she had seen a simple hairstyle online that she wanted to try.

While he was speaking, he made small gestures with his hands. Imagining how he would fix it, Ernesto looked at her for a few seconds.  He observed her dark hair tied in a simple ponytail, her comfortable house clothes, her natural way of speaking.  None of that was bad.  She was the woman he had lived with for several years.

But at that moment he compared that image with the women he had seen in his colleagues’ photos.  I felt a discomfort that I did n’t know how to explain without seeming cruel.  When Lucia finished speaking, she got up from the sofa and said she would go check the dress one more time before going to sleep.

He walked calmly towards the room .  Ernesto sat in the living room listening as she opened the closet.  From where I was I could see part of the room.  Lucia took out the dress and spread it out on the bed again .  He arranged it carefully.  Then she sat down in front of the mirror and began brushing her hair while looking at the blue fabric reflected behind her.

Ernesto felt something strange when he observed that scene.  Lucia seemed happy.   I was really looking forward to that night .  For her it was an opportunity to accompany him and share something important in his life, but in Ernesto’s mind the same concern kept appearing .  He imagined arriving at the party hall with Lucia by his side.

I imagined Mauricio and the other classmates watching them.  She imagined silent comparisons between Lucia and the elegant women they would be bringing.  She got up from the sofa and walked slowly towards the kitchen.  He took a glass of water and drank slowly.  She tried to convince herself that she was exaggerating, but the feeling wouldn’t go away.

He thought of the company’s boss, Alejandro Salvatierra.  He was a powerful man, respected by all.  Ernesto knew that he would be there that night.  Many employees wanted to make a good impression on him.  The idea of appearing in front of those kinds of people with Lucía made him feel insecure, not because she was a bad person, but because she didn’t fit the image he wanted to project.

The water ran out and she left the glass in the sink.  Then he walked towards the hallway.  From there I could see the room again.  Lucia was putting the dress away in the closet.  He hung it up carefully and closed the door. Then he turned off the bedroom light and went out into the living room.  He told Ernesto that it was already late and that it would be better to sleep so he could get up early the next day.

He answered yes.  They entered the room together.  Lucía settled herself calmly into bed .  She seemed relaxed, like someone who is expecting something nice the next day.  Ernesto lay down next to her, but he couldn’t sleep.  I stared at the ceiling while listening to Lucia’s calm breathing.

The silence of the house made his thoughts sound louder in his head.  At that moment he thought again about the idea that had appeared hours before, that simple solution that would save him from having to take her to the party without having to explain anything to her.  He slowly turned his head towards the wardrobe.  I knew perfectly well that the dress was hanging in there.

Lucia was already fast asleep.  His breathing was slow and steady.  Ernesto stared at the closet door for several minutes.  The idea continued to grow in his mind.  It seemed to get easier each time .  If the dress was damaged in any way, Lucia would not be able to go to the party.   There would be no argument, no awkward explanations, it would just be an accident.

He closed his eyes for a moment trying to sleep, but he couldn’t.  The thought kept coming back. Finally, she opened her eyes again and looked at the wardrobe in the darkness of the room.  The decision had not yet been made, but the shame he felt at the possibility of appearing with Lucía in front of his classmates continued to grow within him.

The early morning hours were slowly approaching inside the house.  Outside, there were hardly any cars to be heard, and the streetlights barely entered through the bedroom window.  Ernesto was still awake.  She had spent a long time staring at the ceiling, tossing and turning in bed without managing to close her eyes.  Beside him, Lucia slept soundly, oblivious to everything that was going on in her husband’s head.

Ernesto looked at the clock on the nightstand.  It was almost 1 a.m.  He ran a hand wearily over his face.  I wanted to sleep, but every time I closed my eyes I imagined the party again.  He thought again about his colleagues, about the looks they gave him, about the comments that might come up the next day in the office.

She slowly turned her head towards the wardrobe.  I knew the dress was there.  Lucia had put it away very carefully a few hours earlier.  She had hung it up as if it were something very special, and for her it was. Ernesto took a deep breath.  For a moment he thought about forgetting the idea.  He thought about letting things take their course and simply taking her to the party.

Maybe I was exaggerating.  Perhaps no one would say anything, but immediately images of the office break room appeared in his mind.  He remembered the photos his classmates had shown of their partners.  He remembered the jokes, the laughter, and the comparisons.  He imagined Lucia walking among those people in her simple dress, with her calm way of speaking, he felt that knot in his stomach again, he turned his body slowly so as not to wake Lucia.

He sat on the edge of the bed and waited a few seconds.  He listened to her breathing; she was still asleep.  Ernesto stood up carefully.  The ground was cold under his feet.  She walked slowly towards the closet. The room was almost dark, but the light coming through the window was enough to see the closet door in front of him.

He remained still for a few seconds.  His mind was still in doubt. I knew that what I was about to do was wrong.  It wasn’t an accident, it was a decision.  But I also thought it was the easiest way to avoid the situation.  If the dress was damaged, Lucia wouldn’t have time to get another one for the party.  I simply wouldn’t go.

There would be no complicated questions, no arguments, just bad luck.  He slowly reached out and opened the closet door.  The faint sound of the hinge made him hold his breath for a second.  He turned towards the bed to make sure Lucia hadn’t woken up.  She was still asleep.  Ernesto looked inside the closet again.  The blue dress was hanging in front, perfectly arranged.

The fabric fell softly until it almost touched the ground.  For a moment, he remembered Lucia’s expression when he had shown it to her that afternoon. Her eyes shone with excitement.  That memory made him doubt again.  She stared at the dress without moving.   She could close the closet and go back to bed.

Nobody would know I had been there.  But then she thought again about the party, about the important people who would be attending, about how much she wanted to make a good impression.  He swallowed , reached out, and took the cloth between his fingers.  The dress was soft.   It was clear that Lucía had chosen it carefully.

Ernesto tightened the fabric a little while his mind continued to struggle with the decision.  Then he looked towards the small desk that was in the corner of the room.  On top there were several things, including a pair of scissors that Lucia used to mend clothes or open packages.  Ernesto walked to the desk and took them. The metallic sound as they were lifted seemed too loud in the silence of the night.

He looked back at the bed.  Lucia didn’t move.  He returned to the front of the wardrobe with the scissors in his hand.   His heart was beating faster.  For a moment he felt he was doing something absurd, something that made no sense, but he had already gone too far.  She took the dress in one hand and lifted the fabric a little.

The scissors glowed dimly in the light coming through the window.  He took a deep breath.  Then he closed his eyes for a second.  When he opened them, he brought the scissors close to the fabric.  The first cut was quick.  The sound of the fabric tearing was short, but of course, Ernesto froze for a second.  He looked back at the bed again.

Lucia was still asleep.  Then he continued. He made another cut, and then another.  The blue fabric began to open in several places. The lines of the dress broke.  The design that Lucia had chosen with such care ceased to have a shape.  Ernesto continued cutting for a few more seconds until he was sure that the dress could no longer be easily fixed.  Finally, he lowered the scissors.

The dress now hung with several visible tears.  Ernesto watched him in silence.  A strange mix of sensations passed through her mind: relief, nervousness, and something akin to guilt, but she tried to ignore the latter. He told himself it wasn’t such a big deal , it was just a dress.  She closed the scissors and put them back on the desk.

Then she went back to the closet and rearranged the dress as it was before, trying to make the tears not too noticeable at first glance.  He closed the door carefully.  The room fell silent again.  Ernesto slowly returned to bed.  He lay down next to Lucia again.  She stirred a little in her sleep, but did not wake up.  Ernesto looked up at the ceiling.

His heart was still beating fast.  He had done what he had imagined for hours.  Now all that was left was to wait for morning.  Lucia would find the dress torn and think it had been damaged by accident.  Perhaps when taking it out of the closet, perhaps because of a weak seam.  There were many possible explanations.  Ernesto finally closed his eyes.

This time, sleep began to come little by little.  His mind was no longer preoccupied with taking Lucia to the party.  According to him, the problem was solved.  Beside her, Lucia slept peacefully, unaware that just a few meters away inside the wardrobe, the dress she had chosen with such enthusiasm was already destroyed.

The morning arrived calmly, like any other day. Sunlight began to enter through the bedroom window and gradually illuminated the bed where Lucia was still asleep. Ernesto woke up first, slowly opened his eyes and for a moment stared at the ceiling without moving. Then he remembered what he had done during the early morning.

Her gaze immediately turned towards the wardrobe.  The memory of the sound of the fabric tearing came back to her.  She felt a slight pressure in her chest, something like nerves, but she forced herself to remain calm.  He told himself that everything was under control.  He turned his head towards Lucia. She was still asleep with a peaceful face.  His breathing was slow.

I had no idea what had happened a few hours earlier.  Ernesto got out of bed carefully.  She walked to the bathroom and closed the door without making a sound. While washing her face in front of the mirror.  He avoided looking at himself for too long. She felt a discomfort that was difficult to explain, but she tried to ignore it.

When she came out of the bathroom, Lucia began to move in bed.  He stretched a little and opened his eyes.  The first thing she did was smile.  “Good morning,” she said in a soft voice.  Ernesto responded with a quick greeting and walked towards the kitchen.  She put water on to heat for the coffee.

While doing so , he heard Lucia’s footsteps in the room.  She seemed to be in good spirits.  He even started humming a song as he opened the closet. Ernesto felt his body tense up a little.  I knew that moment would come. From the kitchen I could hear the sound of the cupboard doors moving. Lucia was looking for the dress.

There were a few seconds of silence, then a different noise was heard.  It wasn’t a loud scream, it was more like a kind of gasp, like when someone is so surprised they don’t know what to say.  Ernesto pursed his lips.  The moment had arrived.  Lucía left the room with the dress in her hands.  The expression on his face was one of pure confusion.

She walked slowly into the room while looking at the blue fabric that was now full of cuts.  Ernesto pretended not to notice anything at first.  He stood by the coffee pot, as if he were concentrating on the coffee.  Lucia stopped in front of him.  Ernesto said in a low voice.  He looked up as if he did n’t know what she was talking about.

What happened? Lucia lifted her dress in front of him.  The fabric hung shapelessly.  The cuts were clear.  Nobody could believe that it was in good condition.  “Look at this,” she said.  Ernesto frowned as if he too was surprised.  “What happened to him?” he asked.  Lucia shook her dress a little, trying to understand what she was seeing.  “I don’t know.

I put it away safely last night . It was perfect.”  Ernesto carefully picked up the fabric, observing the tears as if it were the first time he had seen them.  “How strange,” he said after a few seconds.  Lucia seemed increasingly confused.  He ran his fingers over one of the cuts.  This wasn’t the case.  I’m sure.

Her voice didn’t sound accusatory, it sounded sad, as if her mind was still trying to understand how something she had looked forward to so much had been ruined in that way.  Ernesto shrugged.  “Maybe the fabric was weak,” he said. “It happens sometimes with new clothes.” Lucía didn’t answer right away. She continued to look at the dress in silence.

Then she walked over to the sofa and sat down. She placed the fabric on her lap and re-examined every seam. The silence in the house grew heavy. Ernesto brought two cups of coffee to the table. He offered one to Lucía, but she barely looked at it. She was focused on the dress. “This doesn’t look like a broken seam,” she said finally.

Ernesto felt a slight tightness in his stomach, but he tried to remain calm. “Well, I don’t know much about clothes,” he replied.  Maybe it got caught on something in the closet.  Lucia looked up at him.  Her eyes were filled with sadness, but also with something else, a doubt she still didn’t dare to say out loud.  “I hung it up carefully last night,” she said.

“ I even checked that nothing touched it.” Ernesto avoided meeting her gaze for long. He sipped his coffee. “Well, I really do n’t know what happened.” Lucía looked down again. Several seconds passed without either of them speaking. Finally, she slowly folded the dress. Her movements were slower than the night before.

When she arranged it with such excitement, the enthusiasm she had felt seemed to have faded. “I think it’s beyond repair,” she said softly. Ernesto made a face of concern, although deep down he already knew that would be the outcome. “Maybe you could find another dress,” he suggested. Lucía shook her head. “The party is today.

There’s no time, and besides, I don’t have the money to buy another one.” She was silent for a moment, then took a deep breath. “It’s okay,” she said finally. “You can go alone.” Ernesto pretended to doubt. “Are you sure?” Lucía nodded slowly. “Yes, it’s your work event.”  “I don’t want to cause you any trouble.

” Those words made Ernesto feel a slight weight on his chest, but he quickly hid it. “If you say so,” he replied. Lucía got up from the sofa, still holding the dress. “I’m going to put it away. Maybe I can alter it later for another occasion,” she said.  He walked back to the room .  Ernesto stayed in the kitchen watching her disappear down the hallway.

The house fell silent again.  For a moment, he thought about everything that had happened in the last few hours, the dress, the lie, the sadness on Lucia’s face, but he quickly repeated in his mind the reason why he had done it.  It was better this way.  The party would be easier without having to worry about what others might think.

From the room came the sound of the wardrobe closing.  Lucía came out a few seconds later.  Her expression was calm, but her smile from the night before had disappeared.  Ernesto finished his coffee and began to get ready for work.  The party was that same night and he was convinced that everything was settled.

The house felt different after what happened with the dress.  There were no shouts or arguments, but the atmosphere became heavier. Lucia walked silently through the kitchen , moving calmly as she prepared breakfast.  The sound of the plates and the spoon hitting the cup was the only thing that filled the space. Ernesto was sitting at the table looking at his phone.

She pretended to check work messages, but in reality she was thinking about what had happened that morning.  I had imagined many possible reactions from Lucia when she found the torn dress.  He thought that maybe she would cry, or get very upset, or start asking difficult questions.  But none of that happened. Lucia had simply remained silent, staring at the damaged fabric with a sadness that seemed deeper than any scream.

That silence made him more uncomfortable than he expected.  Lucía placed a plate of eggs in front of Ernesto and then sat down in the chair opposite him.  He looked up for a second. “Thank you,” he said.  She just nodded. They ate for several minutes without speaking.  Ernesto tried to act as if everything was normal, but he noticed that Lucia was quieter than usual.

She usually talked about simple things, commenting on the weather, something she had seen on television, or plans for the weekend.  He didn’t say anything that morning.  After a while, Ernesto looked at his watch.  “I’m going to leave a little earlier today,” he commented.  The office wants us to help with some details of the party.

Lucia looked up at him.  “Sure,” he replied calmly.  Ernesto put his fork down on the plate.  “About the party,” he began to say.  Lucia gently interrupted him.  Don’t worry about me.  His tone was calm, but there was something firm about the way he spoke.  “You can go alone,” he continued.  It’s important for your job.

Ernesto made a small gesture of doubt, as if he wanted to appear considerate, but he wanted you to come with me.  Lucia shook her head.  “I have nothing to wear,” she said simply. Those words landed on the table like a weight. She didn’t say them angrily, but as if she were accepting a fact that was beyond repair. Ernesto was silent for a few seconds.

“Maybe you could wear another dress,” he suggested. Although he already knew what the answer would be. Lucía shook her head again. “I don’t have another one for a party like this.” Then she took a sip of coffee and looked out the window. “Besides, it’s fine if you go alone. I’m sure many people will go without a date.

” Ernesto nodded slowly. “If that’s okay with you.” Lucía looked at him for a second. “Yes, I’m fine.” But there was something different in her gaze . It wasn’t anger, nor was it reproach. It was more like a distance, as if something inside her had been switched off. Ernesto looked away first, finished his breakfast, and got up to take his plate to the sink.

As he did so, he thought again that he had made the right decision. Everything was going exactly as he had planned. There would be no arguments, no awkward scenes. He would go to the party alone. Lucía began clearing the table.  As he passed by Ernesto, he noticed she avoided looking directly at him, but he didn’t say anything. After a few minutes, Ernesto went to his room to get dressed.

He put on a clean shirt and dark trousers. In front of the mirror, he fixed his hair and checked that everything was in order. While he was getting ready, he thought about the party that night. He imagined the ballroom full of elegant people, the music, the important conversations. He felt a mixture of nerves and excitement.

He left his room and picked up the keys that were on the table. Lucía was in the living room folding some towels. Her movements were slow, focused. Ernesto approached the door. “Well, I’m going.” Lucía looked up. “Have a good trip,” she said. Ernesto opened the door, but before leaving, he hesitated for a second. “If you want, when I get back I can tell you how everything went.

” Lucía gave a small smile, of course, but that smile didn’t have its usual joy. Ernesto left the house and closed the door behind him. The morning air was fresh. He walked to his car feeling that finally everything was settled. Resolved. He started the engine and headed to work. As he drove, he began to think about the evening.

He imagined conversations with his colleagues, laughter, music, perhaps even the chance to approach an important boss. He wouldn’t have to worry about explaining who Lucía was, or about feeling those stares that unsettled him so much. In his mind, he had avoided trouble. Meanwhile, inside the house, Lucía was still in the living room.

The towels were already folded on the table, but she didn’t move. Her gaze was lost in space. After a few seconds, she took a deep breath and stood up. She walked to the bedroom. She slowly opened the closet. The blue dress was still hanging there. The tears were clear in the daylight. Lucía carefully ran her hand over the ripped fabric .

Her fingers followed one of the long cuts that ran across the dress. There was something about those cuts that did n’t seem like a simple accident. But she didn’t say anything, she just stared at the dress in silence. Then she took it in her hands and folded it slowly. When she finished, she put it away in  A box at the bottom of the wardrobe.

She closed the lid. The room fell silent again. Lucía sat on the bed. For a few seconds, she stared at the floor without moving. Finally, she got up and walked toward the living room. The house was quiet. The clock showed only a few minutes since Ernesto had left. Lucía was about to sit on the sofa when something broke the silence.

There was a knock at the door. The sound was clear. Lucía frowned slightly. She wasn’t expecting anyone. She walked to the entrance curiously. When she opened the door, she had no idea that the person on the other side would change everything that was about to happen that night. Lucía opened the door curiously, still thinking that perhaps it was a neighbor or someone who had mistaken the house for the wrong one, but as soon as she looked up, she froze .

Standing before her was a man she hadn’t expected to see there. He was tall, well-dressed, with a serious expression and a presence that filled the small entryway. His dark suit was perfectly tailored, and his posture exuded confidence. It took Lucía a few seconds to recognize him, but she had seen him.

She had seen him before in photographs and on a very brief occasion when she visited the company where Ernesto worked. It was Alejandro Salvatierra, the owner of the company. Lucía blinked in surprise. For a moment she thought she might be mistaken, but no. It was him, the man Ernesto spoke of with respect whenever he mentioned his work. “Good morning,” Alejandro said in a calm but firm voice.

Lucía took a moment to react. “Good morning,” she replied, somewhat confused. They were both silent for a few seconds. The contrast between Lucía’s simple house and the elegant presence of this man made the moment feel strange. Alejandro glanced inside the house and then back at her. “Are you Lucía Hernández?” he asked.

“Yes,” she replied cautiously. The man nodded slightly. ” I’m Alejandro Salvatierra.” Lucía felt her surprise grow even more. Of course she knew who he was, but she didn’t understand what he was doing there. Alejandro noticed her confusion. “May I come in for a moment?” he asked respectfully. Lucía hesitated for a second, but finally stepped aside.  Yes, of course. Come in.

Alejandro entered the house with a calm gait. He glanced discreetly around the living room . Everything was clean and tidy, though it was clear the place was simple. Lucía closed the door behind him. “Would you like to sit down?” she offered, gesturing to the sofa. Alejandro accepted and sat down.

Lucía sat opposite him, still trying to understand what was happening. The silence lasted a few seconds. Finally, Alejandro spoke. “I know my visit might seem strange.” Lucía nodded slightly. “A little,” she replied honestly. Alejandro placed his hands on his knees and looked directly at her. “I’ve come to talk to you about Ernesto.

” Upon hearing her husband’s name, Lucía felt a slight tension in her chest. “What about Ernesto?” she asked. Alejandro took a deep breath before continuing. “What I’m about to say isn’t easy, but I believe you deserve to know the truth.” Lucía stared at him . The man’s tone was serious. He didn’t seem like someone who was there for a simple matter.

“A few days ago, I discovered something very serious,” Alejandro continued. Lucía waited. “My wife, Patricia, is having an affair with Ernesto.”  The words hung in the air. For a moment, Lucía didn’t react. It was as if her mind needed time to process what she had just heard. “I’m sorry,” she finally said.

Alejandro kept his gaze steady. “I understand it’s hard to believe.” Lucía felt her heart race . “No, that can’t be,” Alejandro replied. He took his phone from his jacket pocket, unlocked the screen, and placed it on the table in front of her. There were messages, photos, records of money transfers. Lucía looked at the screen. Conversations between Ernesto and a woman named Patricia appeared on the phone.

The messages were clear, too clear. Lucía felt the air in the room grow heavy. She read a few sentences, not wanting to go any further. Her hands began to feel cold. Alejandro spoke calmly. “Not only are they in a relationship, they were also planning to run away together.” Lucía looked up. “Run away.” “Yes.” Alejandro clasped his hands together.

“For weeks, Patricia has been moving money from my accounts, millions of pesos. The plan was to run away with Ernesto.” Lucía didn’t  She said nothing. She felt that everything she was hearing was too much. That very morning she had found her dress destroyed. She had thought about that small pain, but now, compared to what she was hearing, that dress seemed insignificant.

Alejandro watched her intently. There was no cruelty in his gaze; rather, he seemed weary. Lucía finally spoke. ” Why are you telling me this?” Alejandro leaned back on the sofa. “Because I found out everything three days ago.” Lucía listened silently. “At first, I thought about confronting Ernesto in the office,” he continued. “But then I understood something.

” He leaned forward slightly. “They think no one knows anything.” Lucía looked at him. “And I want it to stay that way, at least until tonight.” “Tonight,” she asked, “the company party.” Lucía immediately remembered what Ernesto had said that morning. “The party.” Alejandro continued calmly.

“That party will have all the managers, many important employees, and, of course, Patricia and Ernesto.” Lucía understood every word, but she still felt confused. “What does that have to do with me?” she asked. Alejandro looked at her. Directly. I want to expose them in front of everyone. Lucía’s eyes widened slightly .

Alejandro spoke with cold clarity. I want everyone to know what they’ve done. Silence filled the room again. Lucía tried to understand the situation: her husband, that man’s wife, a betrayal, stolen money, and now a party where everything would be revealed. Alejandro continued, “But for that, I need you to come with me.” It took Lucía a second to react.

Come with him? Yes. To the party. Lucía let out a small, nervous laugh. More out of surprise than amusement. That’s not possible. Alejandro frowned slightly . Why not? Lucía lowered her gaze. Because I have nothing to wear. Her words were simple. My dress ripped this morning. Alejandro watched her curiously.

Lucía looked up again. And besides, I don’t think it’s a good idea for me to be there. Alejandro was silent for a few seconds, then spoke calmly. Perhaps it is . Lucía had no idea that this unexpected visit was just the beginning of something much bigger. Lucía remained seated across from Alejandro in the living room, trying  trying to piece together everything she had just heard, she felt the words still swirling in her mind.

Ernesto and that man’s wife . A secret relationship, money moving in secret, an escape plan. The house was silent, but inside Lucía, everything seemed to be churning. Alejandro wasn’t speaking; he was giving her time to think. His expression was calm, though a deep weariness was evident in his eyes . Lucía finally took a breath and spoke.

“How long have you known all this?” Alejandro rested his elbows on his knees and clasped his hands. “A few days ago. At first, it was just a suspicion.” Lucía listened attentively. “I had noticed strange things in the company accounts and also in some personal accounts. Amounts of money moving without a clear explanation.

I thought it was a mistake by the bank or the accountants.” Lucía frowned slightly, “but then I looked more closely,” Alejandro continued, “and found transfers made by Patricia.” “To Ernesto?” Lucía asked with difficulty. “Yes.” Lucía felt another pressure in her chest. Alejandro continued speaking. “To…”  At first, I thought there might be some explanation, maybe a loan or something, but then I checked the messages.

He took out his phone again and placed it on the table. Lucía did n’t want to look again, but she did. On the screen were conversations where Ernesto and Patricia spoke confidently, phrases that left no room for doubt, plans to meet, comments about trips, even messages mentioning the money Patricia was withdrawing little by little.

Lucía closed her eyes for a second. It was too much. Alejandro spoke with an eerie calmness. They planned to leave the country in two weeks. Lucía opened her eyes again. Two weeks. Yes. Alejandro leaned back slightly on the sofa. The idea was to transfer the money to several small accounts, then withdraw it gradually and disappear. Lucía couldn’t believe it.

She thought of Ernesto that very morning, sitting at the table eating as if nothing were wrong. She thought of his calm expression as she held the torn dress. “Are you sure it’s Ernesto?” she asked, even though deep down she already knew the answer. Alejandro slid the phone a little closer to her.

“Are there any photos?” Lucía stared at the screen. One of the images showed Ernesto sitting at a restaurant table. Across from him was an elegant, well-dressed woman with a confident smile. Patricia. Lucía felt a silent blow in her chest. That image seemed to erase any doubt. For several seconds, no one spoke.

Lucía looked down at her hands. Now many things were beginning to make sense in her mind: overtime at work, messages Ernesto answered quickly and then deleted, excuses to go out, small details that at the time had seemed normal, but now everything had a different meaning. Alejandro watched her reaction respectfully.

He hadn’t come to see her to make her suffer more. He had come for another reason. “I’m sorry,” he finally said. Lucía looked up. “Not for what Ernesto did.”  That’s not up to me.  I’m sorry to have to bring this truth to your home.  Lucia took a deep breath.  I didn’t know what to say. Silence filled the room once more. After a few seconds, Alejandro continued.

I thought a lot about what to do when I discovered everything.  Lucia was listening.  He could have fired Ernesto immediately.  He could have faced Patricia at home.  He paused.  But then I thought of something else. Lucia frowned slightly.  They believe their plan is perfect, that nobody knows anything.  Alejandro crossed his hands again and I thought that perhaps the best way to stop them was to let them feel safe until the very last moment.

Lucia looked at him attentively, that’s why I came here.  Lucía remembered what he had said before, that he wanted her to accompany him to the party.  “And what exactly do you want me to do?” he asked. Alejandro leaned forward slightly.  I want her to be with me when I reveal everything.  Lucia looked at him in surprise. In the middle of the party.  Yes.

Lucia was left thinking.  The idea seemed like something out of a movie scene: a room full of important people, her husband, her lover, and suddenly the truth in front of everyone.  “I don’t know if I could do something like that,” Lucia said.  Alejandro looked at her calmly.   You don’t have to say anything if you don’t want to, just be there.

Lucia remained silent.  Alejandro continued.  I want Ernesto to see that you know the truth. Lucía felt a mixture of emotions: pain, anger, confusion.  And something more difficult to explain, a feeling of dignity that was beginning to awaken. Alejandro spoke again.  For weeks they have been acting as if no one else matters, as if the people around them are invisible.  Lucia looked up.

Perhaps it’s time they understand that it’s not like that .  Lucia took a deep breath.  The image of the torn dress appeared in her mind.  He remembered the excitement he had felt the night before.  He remembered the way Ernesto had feigned surprise that morning. Now everything seemed different.  It all seemed part of a bigger lie.

But then Lucia thought of something.  There’s a problem.  Alejandro looked at her.  I don’t have any clothes to wear to a party like that.  He said it simply.  My only dress ripped.  Alejandro watched her for a few seconds.  Then an idea appeared in his mind.  He got up slowly from the sofa. That can be fixed.

Lucia frowned .  As?  Alejandro took his jacket from the back of the sofa.  Come with me.  Lucia remained still.  Where to?  Alejandro responded with the same calm with which he had arrived.  To my house.  Lucía didn’t yet understand what he was planning, but that unexpected invitation was just the beginning of something neither of them fully imagined.

Lucía was still sitting on the sofa when Alejandro told her to accompany him to her house.  For a moment he thought he hadn’t heard correctly.  The idea seemed too strange to him. Just a few minutes ago, that man had arrived at her door with news that had changed everything she thought she knew about her marriage, and now he was asking her to come with him.

Lucia looked at him with uncertainty.  To your house?  Asked.  Alejandro nodded calmly.  Yes. Lucia took a few seconds to answer.  He looked around the room as if searching for something to help him organize his thoughts.  “I don’t understand,” he finally said.  Alejandro walked slowly around the room while he spoke.

“You said you don’t have a dress for the party.”  Lucia nodded. “Yes, then the solution is simple.” Lucia frowned slightly. Alejandro stopped in front of her.  “My house is about 20 minutes from here. There’s a closet there full of dresses that Patricia hardly ever wears.” Lucía understood where he was going with this.

She didn’t speak immediately. Alejandro’s expression didn’t change . “Why not?” Lucía stood up from the sofa. “Because it’s not right.” Alejandro tilted his head slightly. “It’s not right to wear one of her dresses.” Lucía took a deep breath. “It’s not that. Then what is it?” Lucía paced the room a bit before answering.

“This is all too strange. An hour ago, I didn’t know anything about this. Now you’re telling me that my husband is having an affair with his wife, that they were stealing money to escape, and that he also wants me to go with you to a party where he plans to expose them in front of everyone.

” Alejandro listened without interrupting. Lucía continued, “And now you want me to go to your house to choose one of your wife’s dresses.” Alejandro nodded slightly. “When you put it like that, it sounds strange.” Lucía looked at him. “Because it is.” For a few seconds, neither of them spoke. Alejandro finally answered.

“I understand this is a lot to process in a short amount of time.” Lucía crossed her arms. “Yes, it is.” Alejandro took a few steps  He turned to the window and looked out at the street. When I found out what was happening, I felt something similar too. Lucía was silent. Alejandro continued. Anger, confusion, a feeling of having been betrayed by someone he trusted.

Lucía knew exactly what he meant. He turned to her again, but after that first blow, you have to decide what to do. Lucía looked at him intently, and I decided I didn’t want to stay silent. Lucía thought about Ernesto again, about the calm way he had left the house that morning, as if nothing had happened. Alejandro spoke again.

I’m not asking you to come with me for revenge. Lucía looked up. Then why? Because you deserve for the truth to come out. Lucía felt those words touch her in a different way. All morning she had felt sadness, but also something like shame, as if she was somehow part of the deception without knowing it.

Alejandro continued. They made decisions thinking no one would find out. Lucía looked down for a second. And now they think tonight will be just another party. Alejandro walked toward the  She opened the door, but she wouldn’t. Lucía watched him silently. Alejandro opened the door and then looked at her.

“You don’t have to decide right now.” Lucía remained still. “If you prefer to stay here, I’ll understand.” Lucía looked toward the hallway that led to the room. Many images appeared in her mind. The torn dress, the conversation at the table, Ernesto’s fake smile. Then she remembered the messages on the phone, the photos, the money transfers.

It was all real, there was no doubt. She took a deep breath. “If I go,” she said slowly. Alejandro waited. “What exactly will happen at the party?” Alejandro answered clearly. “When everyone is gathered, I’ll show the evidence.” Lucía looked at him in front of everyone. “Yes.” Lucía thought about Ernesto’s face when he found out that everything had been revealed.

She thought about Patricia, the elegant woman in the photos. The silence lasted several seconds. Finally, Lucía spoke. “I need 5 minutes.” Alejandro nodded. “I’ll take the car.” He left the house and closed the door softly. Lucía was left alone. Silence filled the place again. She walked slowly toward the room.  She opened the closet.

The box where she had kept the torn dress was still there. She opened it. The blue fabric was folded inside. She ran her hand over the tears. The night before, she had been excited about the party. She had imagined a quiet evening with her husband. Now everything was different. She closed the box. Then she looked at her reflection in the closet mirror. Her eyes were serious.

She didn’t look like the same woman who had smiled the night before. After a few seconds, she took a small bag and put her phone, wallet, and a few personal items inside. She left the room and walked to the door. Before opening it, she looked at the house one last time. Everything seemed the same as always, but she knew that nothing was the same.

She opened the door. Outside was Alejandro’s black car parked in front of the house. Alejandro was leaning against the vehicle. When he saw her come out, he straightened up . Lucía locked the door . She walked to the car. Alejandro opened the passenger door. Lucía hesitated for a second before getting in. When she finally sat down, the inside of the car smelled of leather.

And something subtle, like expensive perfume. Alejandro walked around the car and got behind the wheel. He started the engine as the car began to move down the street. Lucía looked out the window. The houses of the neighborhood passed by slowly. Neither of them spoke for the first few minutes, but they both knew that the road they were on led them straight to a night that no one would forget.

The car moved through the city streets as Lucía stared silently out the window. The buildings, the shops, and the traffic lights passed one after another, but she barely noticed. Her mind was still trying to make sense of everything that had happened that morning. Just a few hours ago, she had been at home thinking about how to style her hair for the company party.

Now she was sitting in the car of the owner of that company after discovering that her husband had been cheating on her for some time. Alejandro drove calmly. His firm hands on the wheel showed that he was used to being in control of situations, but there was something deeper in his gaze , something that wasn’t easy to hide.

The betrayal had affected him too. After several minutes of silence, Lucía spoke.  Her house is far away. Not far, Alejandro replied. We’re almost there. The car turned onto a quieter avenue, where the houses were larger and the gardens well- kept. Lucía began to notice the difference from the neighborhood where she lived.

The streets were wider, the trees were perfectly aligned, and many of the houses had tall gates. Finally, the car stopped in front of a huge property. Lucía looked up in surprise. The house was a two-story white mansion, with large windows and a garden that looked like it belonged in a magazine.

In the middle of the garden was a fountain, and the driveway was made of light-colored stone. Alejandro turned off the engine. “We’re here, ” he said calmly. Lucía got out of the car and looked around. She had never been to a place like this. Everything looked immaculate. They walked to the front door.

Alejandro took out some keys and unlocked it without difficulty. The interior of the house was even more impressive. The foyer had a high ceiling, a gleaming floor, and a wide staircase leading up to the second floor. The light streaming through the windows illuminated the entire space.  Lucía stood for a moment in the doorway.

“Is it okay?” Alejandro asked. “Yes, it’s just that it’s a very big house.” Alejandro nodded slightly . “It was big for two people.” Lucía noticed the way he said it. There was no anger in his voice, but rather a kind of quiet sadness. Alejandro walked inside. “Come on.” Lucía followed him down a wide hallway to a large room.

When Alejandro opened the door, Lucía immediately understood what this place was. It was an enormous walk-in closet. It was unlike any closet she had ever seen before. It was almost the size of an entire room. There were shelves full of shoes, drawers with accessories, and a long row of dresses hanging on them, each protected by elegant garment bags.

Lucía’s eyes widened in surprise. “These are all Patricia’s,” Alejandro said. Lucía took a few steps into the closet. The dresses were of many colors and styles. Some were sparkly, others were simpler, but clearly very expensive. The fabrics looked soft and delicate. Lucía ran her hand near one of them without touching it. She had never  I’ve seen something like this.

Alejandro leaned against the doorframe. Patricia has always had a taste for elegant clothes. Lucía looked at the dresses for a few seconds. And now I can choose one, she said somewhat incredulously. Alejandro nodded. Whichever one you want. Lucía looked at him. Are you sure? Yes.

Lucía took a deep breath, walked over to the first row of dresses, and began to examine them one by one. Some were too flashy for her, others had cuts that seemed complicated. She spent several minutes looking. Alejandro watched her without interrupting. Finally, Lucía stopped in front of a dark green dress. It was elegant, with a simple design, but very well made.

She picked it up carefully and pulled it slightly off the rack. This one, she said softly. Alejandro took a few steps closer. Do you like it? Lucía nodded. It’s pretty. Alejandro looked at the dress and then at her. I think it will suit you . Lucía held it up to her, imagining how she would look. I never thought I would wear something like this, she said.

Alejandro pointed to a door at the back of the closet. You can try it on there. Lucía walked  She walked toward the fitting room, the dress in her hands. Inside, there was a large mirror and a small chair. She closed the door and began to change carefully. Meanwhile, Alejandro waited silently outside. Several minutes passed.

When the door opened, Alejandro looked up. Lucía came out of the fitting room. The dress fit her perfectly. The fabric draped elegantly, and the color highlighted her eyes and skin. Her dark hair contrasted with the dress’s tone. For a moment, Alejandro was silent. Lucía noticed his reaction.

“Does it look bad?” she asked uncertainly. Alejandro shook his head slowly. “No,” Lucía waited. “It looks great.” Lucía looked at her reflection in the large closet mirror. She hardly recognized herself. The woman she saw before her seemed more confident, stronger. Alejandro spoke again. “I don’t think anyone at the party will expect to see you like this.

” Lucía looked up . “That could be an advantage.” Lucía looked at the dress again. In a few hours, she would walk into a room full of people next to the most powerful man in the company where her husband worked. And all  Everything would change. The plan was already underway. Lucía still stood in front of the mirror inside the enormous closet.

The dark green dress draped perfectly over her body. The fabric was soft and light, unlike anything she had ever worn before. She ran her hands along the sides of the dress, still trying to adjust to the image before her. It was strange. Just that morning, she had found her blue dress torn in her closet at home.

She had felt sadness, even a little shame, for not being able to accompany Ernesto to the party. Now she was here at her husband’s boss’s house, wearing one of the elegant dresses belonging to the woman he had been involved with . It all seemed like a story that wasn’t hers. Alejandro stood in the doorway of the closet, calmly watching her.

There was no rush in his demeanor; he was simply waiting. Lucía turned slightly in front of the mirror. “I’ve never worn anything like this,” she said. Alejandro calmly crossed his arms. It was clear she wasn’t used to it, but it suited her very well. Lucía looked up at the mirror again. She felt different.

It wasn’t just the dress; it was the way she  that everything was happening. The pain she had felt that morning was still there, but now there was something else too, a kind of strength that was beginning to grow inside her. She turned to Alejandro. “Are you sure this is a good idea?” Alejandro didn’t answer right away. He took a few steps into the closet and stopped in front of her.

“When I found out everything, I thought of many ways to handle it,” he said calmly. Lucía listened. “I could have fired Ernesto quietly. I could have spoken to Patricia privately.” He paused. “But then I realized something.” Lucía waited. “ They didn’t just deceive me; they also planned to steal money and disappear.” Lucía looked down for a moment.

“That’s not just personal betrayal,” Alejandro continued. “It’s also a crime.” Lucía looked back at him. “ So, yes, I’m sure of what I’m going to do.” Lucía took a deep breath. “And you think the party is the right place?” Alejandro replied calmly. “It’s the place where they think no one will find out.

” Lucía thought of Ernesto again. She imagined his face when he saw her walk into the room with him.  Alejandro. The idea still seemed hard to believe. Alejandro pointed to the mirror. ” When you enter that place, you won’t be the same woman who left your house this morning.” Lucía looked at her reflection again. Maybe he was right.

The dress made her look different, but it wasn’t just that. It was how she now knew the truth. After a few seconds, Lucía spoke. “I think I should change so I do n’t wrinkle it before the party.” Alejandro nodded. “That’s a good idea.” Lucía went back to the dressing room and changed carefully. She hung the dress back on the rack.

When she came out, Alejandro was already checking his phone. “Everything is ready for tonight,” he said as he put his phone in his pocket. Lucía took her bag. “What time does the party start?” “At 8.” Lucía looked at the clock on the wall. There were still several hours to go. Alejandro walked toward the closet door.

“Can we go out for something to eat beforehand if you’d like?” Lucía hesitated for a second. She wasn’t hungry, but she also didn’t want to be alone thinking too much. ” Okay,” she replied. They came out of the closet and walked down the wide hallway.  from the house. Lucía continued observing everything around her.

Every detail of the place revealed a life very different from the one she knew. As they walked toward the front door, Alejandro spoke again. Lucía. She looked at him. I want you to know something. Lucía waited. You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to. What do you mean? If at any point you decide you do n’t want to go to the party, I can handle everything myself.

Lucía observed him for a few seconds. During the morning she had felt sadness, anger, and confusion. But now, after seeing the evidence and understanding the entire deception, something inside her had changed. She didn’t say anything finally. Alejandro raised his eyebrows slightly. I want to be there. Alejandro nodded. Then we’ll go together.

They left the house and walked to the car. The afternoon sun illuminated the garden and the fountain in front. Lucía got into the passenger seat while Alejandro started the engine. During the drive to the restaurant where they planned to stop, they both remained silent for several minutes. But that silence was no longer awkward.

It was more the silence of two people who were thinking the same thing.  One evening, somewhere in the city, Ernesto was finishing his workday, completely unaware of what was about to unfold. For him, this party would be an opportunity to impress his bosses and enjoy an elegant evening. He didn’t know that when the doors to the ballroom opened that night, the first person he saw walk in would change everything he thought he had under control.

Night had arrived. The ballroom where the company party was being held was filled with warm lights and soft music. Round tables covered with white tablecloths occupied much of the space. In one corner, a band played elegant music, and near the center, several groups of employees chatted while holding glasses of wine or juice.

It was the most important event of the year for Alejandro Salvatierra’s company . Everyone wanted to be there. Elegant suits and striking dresses filled the ballroom with color and movement. Ernesto sat near one of the high tables with several coworkers. He wore a dark suit he had bought months before for special occasions.

He looked relaxed, even a little proud to be there. In his hand, he held a  I sipped my drink while listening to Mauricio tell a story about a difficult client. The others laughed. “And your wife didn’t come?” one of them asked. Ernesto shook his head with a slight smile.  He couldn’t come in the end. He said, “Last-minute problems.

”  Something like that .  He did not give any further details.  He raised his glass and took a small sip. Inside he felt calm.  The plan had worked.  Nobody was asking too many questions, and he could move around the room without worrying about what he had imagined for weeks.  A little further away, near the bar, was Patricia.

Her bright red dress drew attention among the people.   Her hair was perfectly styled and she had a confident expression.  Several people were talking to her while laughing.  She was known within the company, not only for being Alejandro’s wife, but also for her elegant style and the way she moved with confidence at events like that.

Patricia looked around the room.  Her eyes found Ernesto a few meters away.  For a second, they looked at each other .  Patricia smiled discreetly.  Ernesto responded with a slight nod.  No one around seemed to notice that exchange of glances.  To everyone else, they were simply two more people at the party.

The music continued and conversations filled the room. Some employees approached to greet managers, others took the opportunity to talk business amid jokes and drinks. But there was still something missing: the host.  Alejandro Salvatierra had not yet arrived.  Some people were beginning to wonder where he was.   ” It’s strange that Alejandro isn’t here yet,” commented one of the managers.

” Maybe he’s delayed,” another replied. Meanwhile, outside the hall, a black car pulled up in front of the building’s main entrance.  The driver turned off the engine.  Inside the car, Lucia took a deep breath.  The dark green dress she had chosen fit her body perfectly.  Her hair was loose and she had worn simple makeup that Alejandro had suggested during a short stop they made before arriving.

Lucia looked towards the large doors of the living room. From there you could see the light and movement of the party.  List? Alejandro asked.  Lucia took a few seconds to respond.  Not completely. Alejandro nodded.  It’s normal.  Lucia took another breath.  But I’m going in. Alejandro opened the car door and got out.

Then he walked around the vehicle and opened the door for Lucia.  When she went downstairs, the cool night air touched her skin.  The building was large and elegant. Several people were talking near the entrance.  Some guests who were arriving late walked towards the hall at a relaxed pace.  Alexander offered his arm. Lucia looked at it for a second, then took it.

They both walked together towards the entrance. As soon as they crossed the threshold of the hall, the sound of music and conversations enveloped them.  For a few seconds nobody paid much attention, but then some people began to notice who had entered. First there was a group near the door, then another one closer to the tables.

Alejandro Salvatierra had just arrived. The conversations gradually began to quiet down .  All eyes turned towards the entrance, but what really caught everyone’s attention was not just his presence, it was the woman walking beside him .  Lucía walked forward with a calm step, holding Alejandro’s arm .

The green dress stood out among the lights in the hall.  Her expression was serene, but in her eyes there was a certainty that she did not have that morning. Several people began to murmur. Who is she?  Do you know her?  No. In the middle of the room, Ernesto was raising his glass when he heard someone say Alejandro’s name. He turned towards the entrance and then he saw her.  The glass in his hand remained motionless.

His face lost its color.  Lucía was entering the room holding Alejandro’s arm .  The elegant dress, the confident posture, the way she walked alongside the company owner.  For a second, Ernesto thought he was imagining things, but it wasn’t her. Lucia, his wife.  A few meters away from him, Patricia had also noticed the movement at the entrance.

He turned his head curiously.  First she saw Alejandro, then she saw the woman walking beside him .  Her smile vanished immediately.  The entire room seemed to have fallen silent.  All eyes turned from the entrance towards the center of the room, and in the midst of that silence, Ernesto realized that the night he had imagined would not be at all as he expected.

The room was still full of people, but the atmosphere had changed in a matter of seconds.  When Alejandro and Lucía entered arm in arm , many conversations stopped without anyone asking for it.  It wasn’t total silence, but it was the kind of silence that appears when something unexpected catches everyone’s attention at the same time.

Lucía could feel the stares as she walked alongside Alejandro.  Some were curious, others confused.  There were people trying to recognize her as if they thought she might be someone important they simply didn’t remember.  But no one imagined the truth.  Alejandro walked with a confident stride, as if everything were completely normal.

He greeted some executives who were near the entrance with a slight nod.  His expression was calm, almost cold.  Lucia tried to remain calm.  Her heart was beating fast, but she didn’t want to show nervousness.  She remembered the words Alejandro had said to her before entering.  You don’t have to do anything, just be there.

As they walked through the room, the murmurs began to grow gradually.  Who is she?  Is she a member?  A special guest?  Some people even thought it might be a new executive at the company, but in the middle of the room, Ernesto remained completely motionless.  His eyes never left Lucia.  I felt the air around me grow heavy.

His mind tried to find a quick explanation, but none of them made sense. Lucia should be at home.  She didn’t have a dress.  He had made sure of that himself.  However, there it was.  And not only was she at the party, she was walking in arm in arm with Alejandro Salvatierra. Mauricio, who was next to her, noticed her expression.

“What’s wrong?” he asked in a low voice.  Ernesto did not respond.  Her fingers gripped the glass tightly. Mauricio followed the direction of her gaze.  Oh, look, the boss has arrived. Ernesto swallowed, but Mauricio wasn’t looking at Lucía attentively; he had only noticed Alejandro’s arrival .  A few meters away, Patricia was also still watching the scene.

His first reaction had been surprise, but now his face showed something closer to anger.  I didn’t understand what was happening.  The woman walking next to Alejandro was not someone she knew, and Alejandro never arrived accompanied by strangers.  Patricia took a step forward, trying to see better.  Then his eyes met Lucia’s. Lucia did not look away.

For a second that seemed longer than normal, both women looked at each other. Patricia didn’t know exactly who she was, but something about the way she walked next to Alejandro made her immediately uncomfortable. Meanwhile, Alejandro and Lucía continued walking through the room.  Several people approached to say hello.

“Good evening, Alejandro,” said one of the directors.  “Good evening, Alejandro,” he replied with his usual calm. Some looked at Lucia expecting a presentation, but Alejandro said nothing yet.  Ernesto finally put the glass down on the table.  I felt I should approach him, but at the same time I was afraid to do so.

His mind raced, trying to understand how Lucia had gotten there.  She remembered the torn dress.  He remembered her sad expression that morning.  Nothing made sense.  A few steps away from him, Patricia began walking towards Alejandro.  Her posture was elegant, but her face showed tension.  Several people noticed his movement.

After all, she was known as the wife of the company owner.  When Patricia got close enough, she spoke with a smile that seemed forced. Alexander.  Alejandro slowly turned his head .  Patricia’s tone was neutral.  Patricia immediately looked at Lucia.  You’re not going to introduce us.  Alejandro kept his gaze fixed on her for a few seconds.

Lucía could feel the tension between them.  Patricia’s smile became more rigid.  Alejandro finally spoke.  At one point, Patricia frowned slightly.  At one point, Alejandro did not respond immediately. Instead, he looked around the room. Many people were discreetly observing the scene.  The murmurs were now impossible to ignore.

Ernesto took a step forward without realizing it.   I was close enough to hear.  Lucía had seen it too.  Their eyes met.  For the first time since he had entered the room, Ernesto felt something he hadn’t felt in a long time.  Fear.  Lucía didn’t seem like the same woman he had left at home that morning.

There was something different about his posture, something firm.  Alejandro finally spoke again.  I think it’s time.  Patricia looked at him confused. Time for what?  Alejandro raised his voice slightly so that those nearby could hear him.  Ladies and gentlemen, the sound of his voice caused more conversations to stop.  Several people turned towards him.

The band stopped playing.  The room began to fall silent again.  Alejandro looked around calmly.  Before the party continues, there’s something I want to share with you all.  The guests exchanged curious glances.  Ernesto felt his stomach tighten.  Patricia watched him with a mixture of annoyance and bewilderment.

Lucía stood calmly next to Alejandro.  Nobody knew exactly what was about to happen, but everyone could sense that something important was about to come to light.  The room fell into an eerie silence after Alejandro spoke.   It wasn’t total silence at first, but the conversations gradually died down .  People began to move closer, forming small groups around the place where he stood next to Lucia.

Many thought he was going to give a short speech to kick off the party, something about the year’s work, the company’s results, or plans for the future.   It was something that usually happened at those kinds of events, but Alejandro didn’t have the same expression as on other occasions. His face was calm, but firm.

Lucia stood beside him with her back straight and her hands relaxed.  Although inside she felt her heart beating fast, she didn’t show it.  A few steps away, Ernesto felt like he couldn’t breathe .  He didn’t understand how it had all happened until a very clear feeling began to grow inside him.

Something was wrong, very wrong.  Patricia was also watching Alejandro attentively.  His arms were crossed and his gaze went from Alejandro to Lucía with obvious annoyance. Alejandro looked around the room one more time before speaking.  I want to thank you all for being here tonight.  Some people nodded.  It has been an important year for the company.

Several heads nodded in agreement. But before we continue with the celebration, there is something I must clarify. The tone of his voice was clear.  It didn’t seem like the kind of ad someone would make to liven up a party.  Some people began to exchange glances. Patricia took a small step forward.

Alejandro, but he calmly raised his hand.  Let me finish. Patricia pursed her lips.  Alejandro continued.  During the last few weeks I discovered something very serious.  The silence grew heavier.  I discovered that someone very close to me has been using my trust to steal money.  A low murmur rippled through the room.

Some people looked at each other.  steal money from the company.  Alejandro took his phone out of his pocket for a moment, holding it in his hand while he spoke.  Millions of pesos have been transferred from my personal accounts without my authorization. Expressions of surprise began to appear on several faces.

This is not just a personal betrayal, it’s a crime. Lucia looked towards Ernesto.  His face was pale.  Her eyes didn’t know where to look.  Patricia stopped crossing her arms.  His stance changed.  Alejandro lifted the phone slightly.  The evidence is here.  He showed the screen to the people nearby. Transfers, messages, plans.

The murmur in the room grew.  Patricia took another step forward.  “This is ridiculous,” he said in an annoyed tone. Alejandro turned his head towards her. Ridiculous.  Patricia tried to remain calm.  I don’t know what you’re talking about. Alejandro looked directly at her.  Do you want me to show the messages? Patricia’s expression changed for the first time, just for a second, but it was enough for several people to notice.

Ernesto felt his hands begin to sweat. I knew what was coming, I knew it.  Alejandro looked at the guests again.  The person who made these transfers is my wife.  The room erupted in murmurs.  That?  His wife Patricia immediately raised her voice.  That’s a lie.  Alejandro did not respond to her protest.

Instead, she stepped aside and she wasn’t alone. Ernesto’s heart seemed to be pounding inside his chest.  Alejandro continued. The person I was planning to escape with using that money is here tonight.  The silence returned suddenly.  Several eyes began to move around the room.  Searching, trying to guess. Alejandro picked up the phone again.

The messages are very clear.  They talk about trips, bank accounts, plans to disappear.  Patricia was completely tense.  Ernesto felt that his legs no longer wanted to move. Alejandro slowly turned his head and finally looked directly at him. The man who was involved in this.  The silence was so strong it seemed to fill the entire room.

It’s Ernesto Ramírez.  The words fell like a stone in the middle of the place.  For a second nobody spoke.  Then the murmurs erupted loudly.  Ernesto felt like all eyes were fixed on him at the same time.  Some people looked at him with surprise, others with disbelief, some with obvious disapproval.  Patricia completely lost her composure.

“This is absurd!” he shouted.  But Alejandro picked up the phone.  Do you also want me to show the photos?  Patricia remained silent.  Ernesto felt the world around him moving.  Lucía was still standing next to Alejandro.  Her eyes were fixed on Ernesto.  There were no tears, no screams, just a firm calm, a calm that Ernesto could not bear.

The truth was out in the open for everyone to see. The hall was still full of people, but now the atmosphere was completely different.  The music had stopped and nobody was thinking about dancing or celebrating anything.  All eyes were on the same place, on Ernesto, on Patricia, on Alejandro and also on Lucía, who was still standing next to him.

The murmurs grew throughout the room. Some people spoke to each other in surprise, others simply observed without saying anything.  Nobody expected an elegant party to end up turning into such a scene .  Ernesto felt his legs trembling.  For a few seconds he didn’t know what to do.  His mind tried to find a way to escape that situation, but every glance around him made him feel more trapped.

Mauricio, who was a few steps away from him, stared at him in disbelief.  “Is that true?” he asked in a low voice.  Ernesto did not respond.  I couldn’t.  His throat felt dry and his heart was pounding in his chest.  On the other side of the room, Patricia was trying to regain control.  His face was red with anger, but also with nervousness.

“This is crazy,” he said, raising his voice. Alejandro watched her without losing his composure.  “Do you want me to show you the bank statements?” he asked. Patricia pursed her lips.  Alejandro continued.  “Or would you prefer I show the conversations where they talk about escaping together?”  The words floated in the air.

Several people began to look at Patricia with a completely different expression than they had a few minutes ago.  Previously, she was seen as the elegant wife of the company owner.  Now they looked at her with suspicion.  Patricia looked around, searching for some support.  He didn’t find any.  Some employees avoided her gaze, others watched her with obvious disapproval.

The situation was no longer under his control.  Ernesto took a step back without realizing it .  Lucia noticed it.  Their eyes met again.  That look was harder to bear than all the others. Because in Lucia’s eyes there was no scandal, no shouting, only a firm calm, a calm that made it clear that she already knew everything.

Alejandro spoke again.  From this moment on, Ernesto Ramírez is no longer part of this company.  The announcement was clear.  There was no doubt.  Ernesto lowered his gaze.  I felt the weight of every word. Alejandro continued.  And as for the money transfers, I’ve already spoken with my lawyers.  Silence once again filled the room.  This doesn’t end here.

Patricia opened her eyes in surprise. Alejandro did not raise his voice, but every word was firm.  The money will be recovered and legal consequences will follow if necessary.  Patricia was breathing with difficulty.  For years she had lived surrounded by comfort, social respect, and elegant events like that one.

In just a few minutes everything was collapsing.  Some people began to slowly move away from her.  Reputation within those kinds of circles could change in seconds, and that night it had changed.  Ernesto finally spoke.  Alexander.  Her voice was weak, but Alexander showed no interest in listening to explanations.  “You’ve already said enough in your messages,” he replied.

The comment provoked more murmurs among the guests.  Mauricio took a step back, moving a little away from Ernesto.  Other employees did the same.  Nobody wanted to be near someone who had just been exposed like that .  Ernesto felt that distance.  It was as if he were suddenly alone in the middle of a room full of people.

Patricia glared at Ernesto .  “This is your fault,” he muttered .  Ernesto looked at her in surprise. My fault.  But neither of them had a position from which to defend themselves. Alejandro turned towards Lucia for a moment.  Her eyes softened slightly, then she looked back at the guests.  The party is over.  The phrase landed with weight.  Nobody argued.

Some began to gather their belongings. Others left the room in silence, still discussing what they had just witnessed.  In just a few minutes, the elegant atmosphere that had filled the place disappeared.  The laughter had faded, the music was no longer playing, only hushed conversations and awkward glances remained .

Ernesto stood there for a few more seconds, not knowing where to go. Patricia didn’t seem to have a plan either. The image they had both built within that world had disappeared before everyone’s eyes.  Meanwhile, Lucia remained calm.  She had gone from being the woman who that morning thought about staying home because she didn’t have a dress.

To the person who had witnessed the whole truth coming to light.  Alejandro moved a little closer to her.  “Is everything alright?” she asked in a low voice.  Lucia looked at him.  Yes. And for the first time all day she said it with certainty, because in the midst of all the scandal she had recovered something that Ernesto had tried to take away from her, her dignity.

Near the exit of the hall, Ernesto finally walked towards the door without looking at anyone.  Patricia followed him a few steps behind, but they no longer walked like two people sure of their future.  They walked like two people who had just lost everything. Several months passed after that night at the party.  Many people’s lives had changed since then, although the city remained the same, with its streets full of cars, its daily noise, and its constant rhythm.

For Ernesto, things had taken a completely different turn than he had imagined.  After the scandal at the party, his name began to circulate throughout the company and also among other companies in the same sector.  Nobody wanted to hire someone who had been involved in such a  public fraud attempt and betrayal.

The doors, which had previously appeared open, began to close one after another.  For weeks he tried to find work in different places, but the same thing always happened.  As soon as he mentioned his previous experience, someone would recognize his name or remember what had happened at the party.  The interviews ended quickly, the calls never came back.

The man who once believed he was building a great career ended up living in a small apartment he could barely afford. Patricia’s fate was not very different either.  After the public disclosure, Alejandro initiated legal proceedings to recover the money that had been transferred from his accounts. The lawyers were in charge of reviewing every bank transaction.

Most of the money was frozen before it could disappear. Patricia lost access to the accounts.  to the house and the comfortable life she had enjoyed for years.  The friendships that once surrounded her began to gradually disappear.  In those kinds of social circles, scandals are easily remembered.  The elegant woman who always arrived at parties in expensive dresses was now seen as someone who had betrayed her own husband.

She tried to stay close to Ernesto for a while, but their relationship began to deteriorate rapidly, with no money, no clear plans, and without the thrill of secrecy that once bound them together.  The arguments became frequent.  One day they simply stopped seeing each other. Each went their separate way. Meanwhile, Lucia’s life took a turn she herself had not imagined.

After the party, she returned home with a mixture of emotions.  She had gone through sadness, surprise, shame, and finally a feeling of relief.  The truth had come to light.   She no longer had to live inside a lie.  During the following days she made important decisions, officially separated from Ernesto and began to reorganize her life.

It was not an easy process.  She had spent years sharing her life with him, but she also understood that she could n’t keep looking back. Throughout that whole process, Alejandro maintained contact with her.  At first it was just to find out how I was doing, short calls, simple messages asking if I needed help with something related to the legal process or with some paperwork.

Lucía always responded politely, but as the weeks went by, those conversations began to change.  Sometimes they talked on the phone for longer periods.  On other occasions they met for coffee.  At first, both were careful.  Both had experienced betrayal.  The two had seen how a relationship could break down in the worst way, but little by little they began to truly get to know each other.

Alejandro discovered that Lucía had a very different way of seeing life than the people who usually surrounded him.  She wasn’t interested in luxury or appearances.  She was direct, calm, and honest.  Lucia, for her part.  She began to see a side of Alejandro that no one in the company knew.  Behind the serious businessman was a man who valued loyalty and respect more than anything else.

Over time, the trust between them grew.  It wasn’t something that happened overnight; it was something that appeared little by little, in long conversations, in shared moments without pressure, in looks that were no longer full of tension like that first time at the door of the house.  One afternoon, several months after the party, Alejandro invited Lucia to take a walk through a quiet park in the city.

The sun was beginning to set and the air was cool.  They walked for several minutes without talking much. Finally, Alejandro stopped near a large tree.  Lucia looked at him curiously.  Alejandro took a deep breath. When I went to your house that day, he said, “I thought I was just solving a problem.” Lucia remembered that moment perfectly, but she never imagined she would find something more.

Lucia raised her eyebrows slightly. Something more. Alejandro looked at her with a small smile. Someone who would remind me what a real relationship should be like. Lucia didn’t respond immediately. The silence between them was calm, not awkward. After a few seconds, Alejandro continued. I know we’ve both been through difficult times.

Lucia nodded. But I also know that people can start over. Lucia looked at him intently. She wasn’t listening to exaggerated promises or complicated words, just a simple truth. Months after that conversation, Alejandro and Lucia married in a small ceremony. It wasn’t a lavish wedding with celebrity guests. It was simple.

Surrounded by people who genuinely wanted to see them happy. The woman who had once been humiliated by a torn dress was now walking into a new life with someone who valued her for who she was. And although it all began with a painful betrayal, the path that followed led them to  a place that neither of them had imagined that morning when someone knocked on Lucia’s door.
