The Chiefs have been linked with Seattle Seahawks star DK Metcalf.
The 27-year-old has one year left on his $61 million deal with Seattle.
And that could force them into a trade rather than risk losing Metcalf as a free agent next year.
According to Bleacher Report, a deal could see the Chiefs trade a first-round draft pick for Metcalf.
Five of the Chiefs’ wide receivers from 2024 are out of contract this year.
And Mahomes’ favorite target, tight end Travis Kelce, is considering retirement
Marquise “Hollywood” Brown and DeAndre Hopkins will both be free agents.
Super Bowl LXIII hero Mecole Hardman is also out of contract, as is JuJu Smith-Schuster and Justin Watson.
Metcalf has been with the Seahawks for his entire career.
They took him in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft with the No 64 overall pick.
The 27-year-old has been named to the Pro Bowl twice – in 2020 and 2023.
The Chiefs passed on Metcalf to select Hardman at No. 56 overall that year.
They also had the pick before the Seahawks and took safety Juan Thornhill 63rd overall.
Kansas City general manager Brett Veach admitted he made a mistake in passing up the option to select Metcalf.
He said, “Sometimes you don’t take guys and fans do the mock drafts, and they go through them years later and are like, ‘We should’ve taken this guy or that guy.’
“But at the time, a player could’ve been off your board because you had character concerns or an injury concern.
“I think, looking back on DK, there were areas that we weren’t sure on, but there were none maybe that should’ve prompted us to bypass.
