Something special is happening with the Montreal Canadiens right now, and Martin St-Louis’ squad has been incredible since returning from the break.
After a dreadful nine-game losing streak before the Four Nations Showdown, the team is now on a five-game winning streak, and that’s probably no coincidence.
According to the excellent journalist Arpon Basu , Canadiens captain, Nick Suzuki, was called in for a meeting with general manager Kent Hughes (near the time of the Four Nations Showdown).Blue Jackets @ Panthers – NHL Game Preview for March 06, 2025 07:00 PM EST
The topic of this meeting? Start winning games again!
A meeting between Nick Suzuki and Kent Hughes that seems to have changed a lot
See what Basu reported:
“During a conversation between Nick Suzuki and Kent Hughes before the Four Nations break, Hughes told Suzuki to go win games.
That’s exactly what he did.
And now, he’s letting everyone know that he’s holding up his end of the deal as the trade deadline approaches.”
– Arpon Basu
This is incredible information!
From what we understand, during this meeting, Nick Suzuki seemed to ask Kent Hughes to “give the team a chance,” to not sell everything, and to let them try to pull off a surprise by making the playoffs.
Kent Hughes reportedly responded: “Alright, but you have to go win games!”
So, Suzuki “went and won games”, five in a row, in fact-and now he’s reminding everyone that the team is holding up its end of the deal.
They are right back in the thick of the playoff race. Will it be enough to stop Kent Hughes from selling players?
Will it be enough to convince him to bring in reinforcements?
It certainly seems to be off to a good start with the signing of Jake Evans:
Jake Evans will therefore NOT be traded. That’s already a win for Nick Suzuki and his teammates.
