Peter Laviolette responds to calls for his job on Sunday.
The head coach of the New York Rangers addresses the elephant in the room on Sunday.
The New York Rangers have officially been eliminated from contention in the 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs and now there is a veritable army of angry fans demanding answers from the organization.
Naturally many have been quick to call for the head of head coach Peter Laviolette, with many calls for Laviolette to be fired immediately after the conclusion of this regular season.
Laviolette himself is well aware of what the outside perception of the team is at this moment and that’s why he didn’t appear surprised when he was asked about his future with the Rangers on Sunday.
“I think everything gets looked at when a year is not good like this,” admitted an honest Laviolette. “I’m not blind to anything. I love being here with these guys and the New York Rangers. It’s a year where everything went right to a year where things didn’t go right. When things don’t go right, I’m sure everything gets looked at. I’m not naive.”
In spite of the calls for his job from fans, Laviolette insisted that he was committed to the Rangers and wished to remain with the team moving forward.
“That being said, this is the place I want to be was New York City, the New York Rangers,” he admitted. “It’s a great organization, great city, great family.”
Laviolette also admitted that things were difficult, not only for him, but also for all the people he had just mentioned who were let down by this year’s results.
“It’s just tough right now, everybody’s faced with disappointment,” said Laviolette. “Everybody I just mentioned is faced with disappointment today and I get that. There’s always things that are looked at.”
Whether or not he will be back with the Rangers next season remains to be seen.
