A few hours Montreal Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher announced the passing of his mother, the organization released an official statement.

As we reported earlier today, Gallagher shared very sad news on social media.

It breaks the heart and gives a whole new meaning to the small gesture he made Tuesday night after scoring his goal against the Ottawa Senators.

An official statement from the Montreal Canadiens

In the last few minutes, the Canadiens organization has indeed published a heartfelt official statement to extend their deepest condolences to Brendan Gallagher following the passing of his mother, Della.

We join them in their support and stand wholeheartedly with Gallagher.

Do not be surprised if there is a small tribute to Della Gallagher on Saturday night at the Bell Centre, during the game against the Colorado Avalanche.

It is truly impressive and inspiring to see that Brendan has continued playing his team’s recent games despite the terrible ordeal he is going through.

That says a lot about him, and he must be such an inspiration to his teammates right now.

Gallagher, 32 years old, is having a strong season with the Canadiens, having scored 16 goals in 67 games while contributing in so many other ways.
