There is no player in baseball more popular than Los Angeles Dodgers’ superstar Shohei Ohtani. Not only is he the biggest star in Major League Baseball, he has also become a global icon.

Due to his massive popularity, the MLB has shown him some level of favoritism. He has earned some of that, but the league may be taking it too far.

On Monday, the MLB official X account made a post about Ohtani’s home run in the third inning against the Washington Nationals. It was a little bit over the top and the league was called out for it.

“SHOHEI OHTANI, GAME-TYING HOMER!” the post read in all capital letters.

One X user with the handle of @BronxBmbrz called attention to the overstated post for the home run.

“All caps for a game-tying home run in the 3rd inning against the 2-6 Nationals,” he wrote.

In the comments section of the post calling out the league, plenty of fans could not agree more with the idea that Major League Baseball was going too far with the Ohtani hype.

“MLB a dying product,” one fan wrote.

“MLB will highlight Shohei walking a routine grounder,” another fan said.

Another comment read, “He gets a single at Dodger stadium and you would have thought they won the World Series.”

“Nahh I thought this was in the 9th or something when I first seen it lmao,” one comment said.

Another fan wrote, “Even their announcer didn’t say it in an all caps voice.”

Ohtani has gotten off to a solid start to the 2025 season. He has hit four home runs to go along with five RBI’s and a slash line of .311/.436/.644.
