Now that SKA has officially been eliminated from the KHL playoffs, all eyes are on the Ivan Demidov situation for the Montreal Canadiens.

Some believe there’s real hope that he could come finish the season with the Habs, while others aren’t buying it at all.

Here are the facts:

– Demidov’s contract with SKA officially ends on May 31.

– Technically, the Canadiens could try to convince SKA to release him earlier so he could join Montreal’s lineup this season.

– SKA has stated that Demidov may not be released early to join the Canadiens, as he could instead be sent to the MHL (junior ranks over there) to finish the season.

So now all eyes are on the MHL.. and good news this morning!

Ivan Demidov was not sent to the MHL today!

So there’s still hope.

“Ivan Demidov is not part of the SKA-1946 MHL lineup for their game today at 10:00 AM ET.”

TVA Sports journalist Nicolas Cloutier is also closely following this story.

A media outlet over there reports that the Montreal Canadiens expect Ivan Demidov to finish the season in the NHL

Here’s the major development.

So yes, a media outlet from over there-Sports Express-is reporting the following:

“According to Sports Express, a major Russian outlet, the Canadiens are expecting Demidov to arrive in Montreal by the end of the regular season, in the coming days.

A spot in the top-six has reportedly been guaranteed to him.”

Considering that the Canadiens will likely make the playoffs, that the organization has fairly strong ties with SKA, and that Kent Hughes is an incredible negotiator, I personally feel justified in keeping hope that Ivan Demidov will come finish the season in Montreal.

Stay tuned!

Demidov, only 19 years old, recorded 49 points in 65 games with SKA this season, including 19 goals, and finished as the team’s top scorer, despite very questionable usage throughout the season and several games where he played only 2-3 minutes.

In the playoffs, he tallied five points in six games.

This kid truly has special talent.
