Amid all the New York Yankees’ bad news, All-Star second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. is here to boost spirits. Chisholm turned heads Sunday afternoon with a mammoth 400-foot home run off St. Louis Cardinals starter Andre Pallante.

“Ya like Jazz?” the Yankees wrote on X (formerly Twitter). Chisholm and shortstop Anthony Volpe each homered in the 6-5 loss. The energetic slugger finished 2-for-3 and upped his spring average to .182. Chisholm’s homer, which had over 108,000 views on X at publication, hopefully temporarily made Yankees fans smile. Ace Gerrit Cole recently joined the likes of Giancarlo Stanton (elbows), DJ LeMahieu (calf), and Luis Gil (lat) on the injury report with an elbow problem.
At least the Yankees have Chisholm, who hit .273 with 11 home runs, 23 RBI, and 18 stolen bases for the Bronx Bombers last season. The 2022 All-Star tallied 1.5 bWAR and a .825 OPS after joining the Yankees in July. “So excited to watch a full season of Jazz,” an X user commented. “40/40 incoming.”
Added another: “I LOVE JAZZ, give me this all year kid!” Chisholm will likely hit in the middle of the Yankees’ order. Manager Aaron Boone signaled catcher Austin Wells could hit leadoff, with Aaron Judge hitting second ahead of Cody Bellinger and Paul Goldschmidt. Chisholm primarily played third base with the Yankees last year. However, Gleyber Torres’ departure for the Detroit Tigers opened the door for Chisholm’s return to second.

The 27-year-old Chisholm has a tremendous opportunity. Chisholm has earned nearly $18 million and could position himself for a massive contract extension.
“I’m very high on Jazz this season,” one user wrote. “Jazz also moving full time back to middle infield should only help.” “Yanks just might, maybe have one of the more exciting best players in NY,” another suggested.
