It’s been two years since award-winning actor Allen Dizon shared the screen with the late Nora Aunor in the still-unreleased film Ligalig, but the experience remains fresh in his heart—largely because of what happened when the cameras stopped rolling.

In an exclusive interview with PUSH ABS-CBN during the premiere of his latest film Fatherland on April 22, Allen opened up about what it was like to work with the Philippines’ one and only Superstar—and the unforgettable generosity she displayed behind the scenes.

I only worked with Ate Guy once—on Ligalig, which, I believe, was one of her final films,” Allen shared. “It was both the first and last time we got to work together, but it was enough to leave a lasting impression. She was amazing—not just as an actress, but as a human being.”

A Superstar’s Quiet Generosity

What struck Allen most wasn’t just her legendary talent—but the quiet, daily gestures of compassion she extended to the crew.

Every shooting day, she gave money away,” he revealed. “She’d do raffles, she’d invent silly games—games that didn’t really mean anything—just so she could give people some cash. That’s how generous she was. She didn’t have to do it, but she wanted to.”

These acts weren’t for show. There were no cameras, no press. Just a sincere desire to give back.

She was the kind of person who, even if she didn’t have much left, would still give to someone who came to her for help,” he said. “You don’t find many people like that anymore. Her heart was just… different. It was huge.”

More Than an Acting Lesson

Allen said working with Nora wasn’t just a professional milestone—it was a personal lesson.

You learn so much from her—not just how to act, but how to be a better person,” he said. “Those of us lucky enough to have worked with her have a responsibility to carry that forward: how to give, how to help, how to unite. That’s what Ate Guy wanted—for everyone in this industry to love one another, to support each other.”

He described how much respect Nora gave to her co-stars, how present she was in every scene, and how much passion she poured into her craft—traits that Allen said pushed him to deliver his best performance.

Just being beside her, you had to elevate your game. You couldn’t slack off when Ate Guy was around. She gave everything, and you wanted to match that.”

A Wake Full of Love

Allen also spoke about attending Nora’s wake, where emotions ran high—not just because of grief, but because of the overwhelming love that surrounded her.

It was sad, of course,” he said. “But it was also moving. So many people came. People she helped. People she made smile. Her impact on this industry—on our lives—was immense.”

He recalled how Nora’s generosity extended not just to colleagues, but to fans, strangers, and loved ones.

She changed the world of showbiz. She shared everything—her blessings, her time, her heart.”

An Enduring Legacy

Even after 27 years in the business, Allen Dizon counts his film with Nora Aunor as one of the most defining projects of his career.

Absolutely. I mean, I acted alongside Ate Guy. That’s something I’ll carry forever,” he said. “When you’re acting with someone like her, you have no choice but to be great. You rise to the moment.”

As the world continues to mourn the passing of Nora Aunor, Allen Dizon’s story adds another thread to the rich tapestry of her legacy—not just as a superstar, but as a quiet giver whose compassion knew no bounds.

Ate Guy wasn’t just a great actress,” Allen concluded. “She was a great soul.”
