More than two years have passed since Allen Dizon last stood beside Nora Aunor on the set of the still-unreleased film Ligalig, but for the seasoned actor, the memories of that project — and of “Ate Guy” herself — remain deeply etched in his heart.

In an exclusive interview with PUSH ABS-CBN during the premiere of his latest film Fatherland last April 22, Allen opened up about the rare opportunity to work with the late, great Nora Aunor, who passed away recently and left the Philippine entertainment industry mourning a true icon. Through tears and heartfelt recollections, Allen painted a portrait of a woman whose kindness, generosity, and humanity shone just as brightly off-camera as her talent did on screen.

“I worked with Guy for a film, Ligalig. It hasn’t been released yet. I know that Ligalig was one of the last films he did,” Allen shared. “That was the first and last time that I worked with her.”

Despite only working with her once, the experience left a permanent mark. The actor admitted he was both nervous and honored to share scenes with Nora, whom he referred to with deep respect and affection as “Ate Guy.”

Kindness That Knew No Cameras

What struck Allen the most wasn’t just Nora Aunor’s immense acting talent — which has long been celebrated both locally and internationally — but the way she treated everyone around her, especially when no cameras were rolling and no spotlight was on her.

“She’s a fun person to work with because every time we’re shooting, she gives away her money to people, to the crew,” he recalled.

According to Allen, it was common for Ate Guy to hold daily raffles on set — not for publicity, not for gimmick, but simply out of a desire to share her blessings. “Every day, there is a raffle. Every day, there is a game that has no value but is just to give money. I thought, Ate Guy is so kind, so very generous.”

In an industry where stories of ego and competition often dominate headlines, Allen’s account of Nora’s quiet, selfless gestures serves as a powerful reminder of what true stardom should be rooted in — humility, compassion, and heart.

A Dying Breed of Givers

The veteran actor became emotional as he spoke about the kind of person Nora was — the kind he believes is becoming increasingly rare in today’s world.

“You know what they say, it’s not like she doesn’t have any money anymore, but if someone comes to her, she’ll give it to them. It seems like those kinds of people are becoming less and less these days. It seems like those who really help are serious about helping people in need. It seems like Ate Guy’s heart is also broken, right?”

His voice cracked as he described how genuine Nora’s giving spirit was — never for show, never for praise. Her generosity came from a place of deep empathy, something she carried with her throughout her life and career.

A Mentor Beyond the Craft

For Allen, working with Nora wasn’t just an acting milestone — it was a lesson in being a better human being. “You can learn a lot from her, and I know artists like me will continue what Ate Guy started: how we give to people, how we help those in need, and how we unite.”

He continued, “That’s what I see Ate Guy wanted — to love everyone. Especially in the showbiz industry, to help everyone. That time that I was with her, I learned a lot from her. You know how much she loves you as a co-actor, how she acts when the camera is rolling. She’s one of a kind.”

At the Wake: Bittersweet Goodbyes

Allen also shared his emotions when he attended Nora’s wake, expressing both sadness and admiration as he witnessed the outpouring of love and gratitude from those she touched during her lifetime.

“I went to Ate Guy’s wake and of course it was sad,” he said. “It’s so funny and sad because so many people loved her. So many people she helped, so many people she made happy and joyful.”

What Allen saw there was a testament to the life she lived. “She changed the world of showbiz, she changed the showbiz industry because of what she shared with people — all her blessings, she shared with people, with her loved ones, with her fans.”

A Legacy Etched in Hearts

Even after more than 27 years in showbiz, Allen considers his collaboration with Nora Aunor one of the highlights of his acting career. “Yes, because I’m with my sister Guy. Imagine being with my sister Guy — so you have to be good too, you have to improve.”

Working with her pushed him to be better — not just in his craft, but as a person. And as he continues his own journey in the industry, Allen carries with him the lessons and legacy of a woman who never sought recognition for her generosity, yet earned the undying respect of everyone who knew her.

A True Mother to All

Nora Aunor wasn’t just a superstar. To those lucky enough to work with her, like Allen Dizon, she was a mentor, a friend, and a mother figure — quiet in her compassion, bold in her generosity, and unmatched in her humanity.

In Allen’s own words, “She’s one of a kind, and I know that many people really regret the loss of Ate Guy.”

Her kindness, much like her talent, will never be forgotten.
