Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Toronto Blue Jays are still trying to find common ground on a new deal. Guerrero made it plain and simple for the team, saying he cannot compromise on his requirements. The Blue Jays have not given a proper answer on his future.

At present, the franchise holds the key to Vladdy’s future. Since the slugger will become a free agent after the 2025 World Series. All the other teams will not be able to acquire him before that unless the Blue Jays trade him. The franchise is well aware of this and is playing the waiting game.

With eight months remaining to retain him, Ross Atkins and his team might have the last laugh. Toronto was involved in several trade rumors with top free agents. From Juan Soto to Alex Bregman, they were pretty active on the free agent market. Yet, they never went all out to retain Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

It turns out that the Blue Jays are just waiting to match Guerrero’s demands. After adding top players like Anthony Santander and Max Scherzer, many believe the team will not part ways with Vladdy.

Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller says the team will not trade Vladdy.

“Now, the big question has become whether he’ll still be with the Blue Jays in August or whether they’ll be far enough out of contention to put what would be a massive several-month rental on the trade block, a la Manny Machado in 2018. “They’re not going to trade him before the season, though,” Miller wrote via Blue Jays Insider.

MLB Insider Says The Blue Jays Must Pay The Price For Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

While many hope the Blue Jays will retain Guerrero, MLB insider Buster Olney says they must pay the price. Olney says the franchise has put things off when it comes to Guerrero.

“Allowing Guerrero to reach free agency makes no sense given the Jays’ handling of his career and his contract situation. Time after time, Toronto leadership put off a hard decision on Guerrero, and now the team has to pay the price. The only question is whether the cost comes in Vladimir Guerrero’s departure or in his retention,” Olney said via ESPN.

The Blue Jays hold the advantage and must strike a deal with Guerrero before it’s too late. Meanwhile, early rumors of Vladdy linked to an AL East team are already brewing.
