The debate over who should be the “face of the league” has gained attention recently after Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards downplayed the importance of the title. However, LeBron James stepped into the conversation, not to claim the title for himself but to call out the NBA media.
The Los Angeles Lakers superstar argued that the media’s constant scrutiny discourages young players from embracing the role. Nevertheless, sports analyst Stephen A. Smith was quick to challenge LeBron’s stance, arguing that the media’s role is to analyze and discuss the game.

LeBron, however, did not remain silent. He took to his X account and elaborated on his perspective. The four-time NBA title winner also argued that the conversation shouldn’t be about just one player but rather the state of the game as a whole.
“Exactly made my point, but anyways. Happy this convo has started. It ain’t about ‘face of the game,’ and it ain’t about one person or one show; it’s about the culture of basketball, the most beautiful game in the world,” LeBron wrote.
LeBron then went on to highlight the league’s rising stars and competitive teams. He also shifted the focus from media narratives to the quality of basketball being played.
Charles Barkley Blasts LeBron James-Michael Jordan GOAT Debate
Charles Barkley recently took aim at the ongoing LeBron James-Michael Jordan GOAT debate. During a recent episode of his Steam Room podcast, Barkley openly criticized those who perpetuate the discussion, calling it a “stupid” conversation driven by media figures more interested in clickbait than genuine analysis.
“Guys on television and radio who have no talent. They wanna get clicks from these fools on the internet and call-in radio shows. It’s just stupid. I said that about the Michael/LeBron thing. People who have no talent argue that. The public, they’re stupid,” Barkley said.
This constant arguing over a subjective topic seems to detract from the enjoyment of basketball itself. Instead, it should be about appreciating the greatness of these athletes and the impact they’ve had on the game of basketball, no matter who sits at the top of the list.
