Anthony Rizzo is one of the top free agents, and the first baseman is still waiting for a team to sign him. Rizzo had a slumping season with the Yankees in 2024 as injuries got the better of him. Pete Alonso was a considerable threat to Rizzo, being a heatly first baseman. Alonso is gone to the Mets, and Alex Bregman is gone to the Red Sox.
Yet, the 35-year-old Rizzo is still unsigned. The Yankees have moved past Rizzo, but there might be chances for a couple of teams to sign him before the regular season.

Chicago Cubs
Rizzo led the Cubs to win their World Series title in 2016. The Cubs were one of the most active teams in pursuing Alex Bregman. Now that they have missed out on Breggy, they might consider bringing back an All-Star player.
The Cubs are not ready to go all out and spend. Signing Anthony Rizzo can be a feasible option for the team. The first baseman is waiting for a team, and this will be the best time to negotiate. At 35, Rizzo has more time to shine on the field. Older players are attracting deals, and one bad injury-prone season is not enough to make him a bad player.
San Diego Padres
The Padres also have an opportunity to sign Rizzo. Despite the team trying to cut payroll and dealing with ownership issues, San Diego has a great shot at bringing him back where he started. The Padres have missed out on retaining a few of their players. With Dylan Cease on the market, they might be able to bring in Rizzo.
Anthony Rizzo’s Position Makes It A Hard Bargain
The biggest issue with Rizzo is that not many teams have shown interest in signing a first baseman. Alonso was a different case altogether. Despite his top performance in 2024, Alonso struggled to get what he wanted and went back to the Mets.
The Yankees have moved on with Paul Goldschmidt. It’s hard to see them trying to bring back Rizzo again. That said, his chances have dwindled to only two teams. It’s hard to tell if Anthony Rizzo will get a contract before the regular season. It’s a tough time for the slugger, but all he needs to do is wait patiently.
