Anthony Rizzo is one of the top free agents, and the first baseman is still waiting for a team to sign him. Rizzo had a slumping season with the Yankees in 2024 as injuries got the better of him. Rizzo led the Cubs to win their World Series title in 2016. The Cubs were one of the most active teams in pursuing Alex Bregman. Now that they have missed out on Breggy, they might consider bringing back an All-Star player.

The Cubs are not ready to go all out and spend. Signing Anthony Rizzo can be a feasible option for the team. The first baseman is waiting for a team, and this will be the best time to negotiate. At 35, Rizzo has more time to shine on the field. Older players are attracting deals, and one bad injury-prone season is not enough to make him a bad player.

San Diego Padres

The Padres also have an opportunity to sign Rizzo. Despite the team trying to cut payroll and dealing with ownership issues, San Diego has a great shot at bringing him back where he started. The Padres have missed out on retaining a few of their players. With Dylan Cease on the market, they might be able to bring in Rizzo.
