Dallas Mavericks fans are still coming to terms with the stunning midseason trades that have left the team grappling with questions about its future. The most shocking move of all was the unexpected trade of franchise superstar Luka Doncic.

No one could have predicted the Mavericks would part ways with their cornerstone player, but a combination of injury concerns and doubts about Doncic’s diet and conditioning led to the decision to ship him off to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis.

But the surprises didn’t stop there. Along with Luka, the Mavericks also traded away rising star Quentin Grimes. They sent Grimes to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for small forward Caleb Martin.

A recent stat also highlights the pain Mavs fans are feeling. Luka and Grimes are the only guards this season to record a game with over 40 points, over 5 rebounds, over 2 steals, and over 5 threes.

Since the trades, both Luka and Grimes have seemingly found new life with their respective teams. Their individual performances continue to shine, but their success with new teams amplifies the disappointment in Dallas.

For the Mavericks, the aftermath of these trades has not been so kind. Since the Luka trade, the team has struggled to maintain consistency. In their last 12 games, the Mavs have posted a 6-6 record.

Meanwhile, Luka has stepped up as a key player for the Lakers, averaging 21.0 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 6.4 assists over seven games. Grimes, too, has made waves with the 76ers, playing nine games and averaging 16.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.8 assists. His standout performance came against the Golden State Warriors, where he poured in 44 points, grabbed six rebounds, and added three steals.
