The Chicago White Sox’s locker room situation is unclear after a record-breaking 2024 season. The team suffered an all-time single-season loss record of 41 wins and 121 losses. They head into the new season with a historically low over/under win total.

While the situation needs some assurance going ahead with high aspirations, the White Sox’s center fielder Luis Robert Jr. admitted an honest realization. During the recent Friday, Robert shared a light-hearted moment with teammates, joking about his locker’s past occupants. It was earlier allotted to Jose Abreu and Yoan Moncada, interestingly both of whom have moved on from the team.

Since the conclusion of the last White Sox rebuild, Robert has seen many of his teammates depart. Abreu, a celebrated figure in Sox history, is no longer on the roster, while Moncada is now wearing a different uniform with the Angels. Robert is one of the last remnants of the once-promising core group.

“Every player that sits in this locker is gone. I might be the next one,” the White Sox star said. “I try to enjoy this time here, try to enjoy being with my teammates and the clubhouse. Just trying to enjoy the whole experience,” he added.

The Cuban righty has been the center of trade rumors for months lately. With key players already moved, Robert is aware that his time in the Windy City could soon come to an end. The doubt comes especially with the franchise facing another potentially disappointing season.

Chicago White Sox Hit With Another Injury Blow

While the uncertainty looms around the Chicago White Sox locker room, another injury blow hit them hard. Recently, left fielder Andrew Benintendi suffered a non-displaced fracture in his right hand during their Cactus League opener against the Guardians.

Despite celebrating their first victory under manager Will Venable, the injury humbled the excitement of the 4-2 win. Benintendi, who was hit by a pitch in the first inning, is expected to miss four to six weeks.

With Opening Day approaching on March 27, there’s hope that Benintendi could return sooner rather than later, but the team isn’t planning to rush him back. Venable emphasized the importance of allowing Benintendi the necessary time to heal. According to him, Benintendi’s presence is invaluable both on the field and as a mentor to younger players.

In his absence, the White Sox will need to rely on their depth, with other veteran outfielders like Luis Robert Jr. and Michael A. Taylor stepping into more prominent roles. However, the younger prospects, including Dominic Fletcher and Oscar Colás, may also have the opportunity to spare their skills during this critical time.
