Many years ago, Anthony Rizzo was one of the top first basemen in Major League Baseball.

Even before he suffered a concussion with the New York Yankees during the 2023 campaign, he was playing at an above-average level. However, since the concussion, Rizzo had been one of the worst first basemen in Major League Baseball, and remains unemployed because of it.

His days with the Chicago Cubs are long gone, where he was a three-time All-Star, World Series champion, Platinum Glove winner and much more. However, there’s still value in adding a guy of his status, even if it’s to have around in a clubhouse.

That hasn’t been the case just yet, and there are now questions about whether he’ll ever play another game in Major League Baseball.

Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report looked at a few teams that could use him, predicting that he’d sign with the Colorado Rockies.

“Is he ready to just be done with baseball? At 35 after two straight seasons of battling injuries ranging from concussion issues to a broken arm, it’s plausible he’ll call it a career soon.

“It sure would be fun to get some of the old band back together again, though. Not with the Cubs, but rather with one of his star teammates from that 2016 nucleus. Colorado (Kris Bryant) could certainly use a first baseman,” Miller wrote.

The Rockies are arguably the worst team in Major League Baseball, and unlike a potential reunion with the Yankees or Cubs, if that were to ever happen, Rizzo wouldn’t have an opportunity to win.

That might not mean much at this stage of his career, and he should be thankful to get an opportunity after posting an 81 OPS+ last season, but he should want to win, and that could be a factor.
